David F. Abramtsov, The Orthodox Companion, Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese: Englewood, NJ, 1983. This is a great overview of Orthodox practice written for Orthodox Christian. It also has a few prayers in it.

 

David Adam, Power Lines: Celtic Prayers About Work, Triangle: London, 1992. David Adam has written many helpful prayer books.

 

Robert Atwan, Poetry in English Inspired by the Bible - Chapters into Verse Volumes 1 and 2, New York, Oxford University Press, 1993.

 

Robert Atwell (Compiler), Celebrating the Seasons: Daily Spiritual Readings for the Christian Year, Morehouse Publishing, 2001. This is the best daily reading book I have ever run across. It follows the liturgical year and introduces a wide breath of great authors that all Christians should be read.

Walter Brueggemann, Awed to Heaven, Rooted to Earth, Fortress Press: Minneapolis, 2003.

 

F. Forrester Church and Terrence J. Mulry, The Macmillan Book of Earliest Christian Prayers, New York: MacMillan Publishing Company, 1988. Many wonderful ancient prayers.

 

Phyllis Cole and Everett Tilson, Litanies and Other Prayers, Abingdon Press: Nashville, 1992. These books are divided by year A, B and C and contain many helpful prayers.

 

Michael Counsell (editor), 2,000 Years of Prayer, Harrisburg, PA: Morehouse Publishing, 1999. Includes a variety of prayers. Nice introduction on people.

 

Thomas Craughwell (editor), Every Eye Beholds You: A World Treasury of Prayer, Harcourt Brace and Company, 1998. This offers prayers from a variety of spiritual traditions.

 

Horton Davis (editor), The Communion of Saints: Prayers of the Famous, William B. Eerdmans Company: Grand Rapids, 1990.

 

Esther DeWaal, The Celtic Vision – Prayers, Blessings, Songs, and Invocations from the Gaelic Tradition, Liguori: Liguori Publications, 2001. Offers the flavor of Celtic prayers collected in the 19th Century in the Scottish Highlands.

 

John Fitzgerald, A Contemporary Celtic Prayer Book, Chicago: ACTA Publications, 1998. Daily prayer guide.

 

Kathy Galloway, The Pattern of Our Days: Worship in the Celtic Tradition from the Iona Community, Paulist Press: New York, 1999. The Iona Community is a bit liberal but there are still some helpful prayers here.

 

Edward Hays, Pray All Ways, Forest of Peace Publishing: Leavenworth, KS, 1981. Hays books slightly irreverent but often deeply challenging. This book contains essays on prayer as well as prayers.

The Northhumbria Community, Celtic Daily Prayer: Prayers and Readings From the Northumbria Community, San Francisco: HaprerCollins, 2002. This prayer book offers two different daily readings as well as morning, midday and evening prayers.

 

John Henry Newman, Selected Sermons, Prayers and Devotions, Vintage Books, 1999.

 

Brendan O’Malley, A Celtic Primer: The complete Celtic worship resource and collection, Morehouse Publishing: New York, 2002. This is a great resource for Celtic prayer and praise. The book comes with a disc of all prayers, so they can be easily incorporated into worship.

 

Larry Richards, Every Prayer and Petition in The Bible, Thomas Nelson Publishers: Nashville, 1998.

 

Alexander Schmemann (editor), A Manual of Eastern Orthodox Prayers, Crestwood, NY: SVS Press, 1997. I have found this little prayer book very helpful in my personal devotions.

 

Phyllis Tickle (editor), The Divine Hours: Prayers for Summertime, Doubleday, 2000. This is one of three prayer books Phyllis Tickle has edited for different seasons of the year. This is a helpful book for orienting our life the cycle of daily offices.

 

Hannah Ward and Jennifer Wild, Resources for Preaching and Worship: Year C, Westminster John Knox Press: Louisville, 2003.

 

James D. Watkins, Manual of Prayers, Pontifical North American College: Chicago, 1998. This is a great collection of Roman Catholic prayers.

 

Robert Van De Weyer, Celtic Praise, Nashville, Abingdon Press, 1998. Beautiful little book.
